Joseph Stalin was born on December 6, 1878 acccoording to the old Julian Calender or on December 18, 1878, then Stalin made up a new birthday for him self, December 21, 1879. Joseph Stalin Joseph Stalin grew up as a only child. His father was a shoemaker and a alcoholic who would beat Stalin. His mother was alaundress. When he was little children in the village would treat him badly, so when he grew up he wanted respect.When he was a child, he had smallpox, beacause of the smallpox, there were facial scar marks (life-long). Later on, Stalin got a scholarship to attend a seminary near the city of Tblisi to study about the priesthood in the Georgisn Orthdox Church. Later, he began to be interested in the revolutionary movement againest the Russian monarchy. He secretly stared to read the work of German social philosopher and "Communist Manifesto" author karl Marx. In 1899, he was expelled from the seminary because he was missing too many exams, but he argued and said it was for the Marxist propaganda. Stalin became a underground political agitator after being expelled from school. While becoming a political agitator, he took part in a lot of strikes and labor demonstrations.
